The Ghibli offers an optional Surround View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The G80 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Ghibli and the G80 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available crash mitigating brakes and lane departure warning systems.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Ghibli has a standard 850-amp battery. The G80’s 740-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Ghibli’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. (Start/Stop isn’t accounted in present EPA fuel mileage tests.) The G80 doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Ghibli has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The G80 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Ghibli’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the G80 3.8 are solid, not vented.

For better traction and acceleration, the Ghibli has larger standard rear tires than the G80 (275/40R19 vs. 245/45R18). The Ghibli’s optional rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the G80 (285/35R20 vs. 275/35R19).

The Ghibli’s standard 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G80 3.8’s standard 45 series tires. The Ghibli’s optional 245/35R21 front and 285/30R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the G80 5.0/3.3T Sport’s 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghibli has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the G80 3.8. The Ghibli’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 19-inch wheels on the G80 5.0/3.3T Sport.

The Ghibli has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the G80, it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Ghibli’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The G80 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

The Ghibli S Q4 handles at .91 G’s, while the G80 AWD pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Ghibli S Q4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the G80 5.0 (25.5 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26.7 seconds @ .7 average G’s).

The Maserati Ghibli may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 600 pounds less than the Genesis G80.

The Ghibli has a much larger trunk than the G80 (17.6 vs. 15.3 cubic feet).

A low lift-over trunk design makes loading and unloading the Ghibli easier. The Ghibli’s trunk lift-over height is 25.8 inches, while the G80’s liftover is 27.5 inches.

The Ghibli’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G80 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

The Ghibli’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the G80.

The Ghibli’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G80 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

On a hot day the Ghibli’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the G80 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Ghibli to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The G80 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Consumer Reports rated the Ghibli’s headlight performance “Fair,” a higher rating than the G80’s headlights, which were rated “Poor.”

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Ghibli offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The G80 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Optional air conditioned seats in the Ghibli keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The G80 only offers an air-conditioned driver’s seat.
