The Ghibli’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 5 more horsepower (345 vs. 340) and 44 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 325) than the A6 3.0T’s standard 3.0 supercharged V6. The Ghibli S’ standard 3.0 turbo V6 produces 84 more horsepower (424 vs. 340) and 81 lbs.-ft. more torque (406 vs. 325) than the A6 3.0T’s standard 3.0 supercharged V6.

The Ghibli has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the A6 (21.1 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Ghibli has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The A6 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

For better traction and acceleration, the Ghibli has larger standard rear tires than the A6 (275/40R19 vs. 245/45R18). The Ghibli’s optional rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the A6 (285/35R20 vs. 255/40R19).

The Ghibli’s standard 275/40R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A6’s standard 45 series tires. The Ghibli’s optional 285/30R21 rear tires have a lower 30 series profile than the A6’s optional 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Ghibli has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the A6. The Ghibli’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the A6.

The Ghibli has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the A6, it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Ghibli offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The A6’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Ghibli’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The A6 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Ghibli’s wheelbase is 3.4 inches longer than on the A6 (118 inches vs. 114.6 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Ghibli is .3 inches wider in the front and 1.4 inches wider in the rear than on the A6.

The Ghibli’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the A6’s (53.5% to 46.5%). This gives the Ghibli more stable handling and braking.

The Ghibli S Q4 handles at .91 G’s, while the A6 2.0T Premium Quattro pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Ghibli S Q4 executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.3 seconds quicker than the A6 2.0T Premium Quattro (25.5 seconds @ .8 average G’s vs. 26.8 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Ghibli’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the A6’s (38.4 feet vs. 39 feet).

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Ghibli a Large car, while the A6 is rated a Mid-size.

The Ghibli has 10.8 cubic feet more passenger volume than the A6 (108 vs. 97.2).

The Ghibli has 1.6 inches more front headroom, .3 inches more front shoulder room, 1 inch more rear headroom and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the A6.

The Ghibli has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The A6 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Ghibli’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The A6 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

On a hot day the Ghibli’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the A6 can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Ghibli offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The A6 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

When the Ghibli with available tilt-down mirrors is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The A6’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.
