For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LX 570 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Kia Telluride doesn’t offer pretensioners for the middle seat belts.
The LX 570’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Telluride doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

During a rear-end collision, the Active Headrests system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Telluride doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.
To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the LX 570. But it costs extra on the Telluride.
When descending a steep, off-road slope, the LX 570’s standard CRAWL Control allows you to creep down safely. The Telluride doesn’t offer CRAWL Control.
Both the LX 570 and the Telluride have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.
The Lexus LX 570 weighs 1360 to 1888 pounds more than the Kia Telluride. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
The LX 570’s corrosion warranty is 1 year and unlimited miles longer than the Telluride’s (6/unlimited vs. 5/100,000).
A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the LX 570’s reliability 11 points higher than the Telluride.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2019 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 20 more problems per 100 vehicles, Kia is ranked 10th.
From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Kia vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus first in reliability. Kia is ranked fifth.
The LX 570’s 5.7 DOHC V8 produces 92 more horsepower (383 vs. 291) and 141 lbs.-ft. more torque (403 vs. 262) than the Telluride’s 3.8 DOHC V6.
The LX 570 has 5.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Telluride (24.6 vs. 18.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.
For better stopping power the LX 570’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Telluride:
The LX 570’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs on the Telluride are solid, not vented.
For better traction, the LX 570 has larger standard tires than the Telluride (275/50R21 vs. 245/60R18). The LX 570’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Telluride (285/50R20 vs. 245/60R18).
The LX 570’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Telluride LX/EX’s standard 60 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LX 570 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Telluride LX/EX. The LX 570’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the Telluride S/SX.
The LX 570 has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Telluride, it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.
The LX 570 has a standard driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Telluride’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.
The LX 570’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the Telluride’s (55.7% to 44.3%). This gives the LX 570 more stable handling and braking.
For greater off-road capability the LX 570 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Telluride (8.9 vs. 8 inches), allowing the LX 570 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.
A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the LX 570 easier. The LX 570’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 28.8 inches, while the Telluride’s liftover is 30.7 inches.
The LX 570’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Telluride’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.
The LX 570’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Telluride’s (7000 vs. 5000 pounds).
The engine in the LX 570 is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Telluride. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because there are no rear spark plugs and the accessory belts are in front.
J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Kia. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 56% lower rating, Kia is ranked 20th.
The LX 570’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Telluride does not have an oil pressure gauge.
If the windows are left open on the LX 570 the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Telluride can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
The LX 570’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Telluride’s standard manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LX 570 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Telluride doesn’t offer headlight washers.
To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the LX 570 has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Telluride doesn’t offer cornering lights.
The LX 570 has standard automatic dimming rear and side view mirrors which automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Telluride offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.
The LX 570 has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Telluride EX/SX.
