Safety

The LX 570’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Cayenne doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Lexus LX 570 are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Porsche Cayenne has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the LX 570 and the Cayenne have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes and rearview cameras.

The Lexus LX 570 weighs 740 to 1623 pounds more than the Porsche Cayenne. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LX 570 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Cayenne. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Cayenne ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are over 26 percent more Lexus dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the LX 570’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 1 more problems per 100 vehicles, Porsche is ranked second.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ April 2018 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus second in reliability. Porsche is ranked 13th.

Engine

The LX 570’s 5.7 DOHC V8 produces 48 more horsepower (383 vs. 335) and 71 lbs.-ft. more torque (403 vs. 332) than the Cayenne’s standard 3.0 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Lexus LX 570 uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Cayenne requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The LX 570 has 4.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Cayenne Hybrid’s standard fuel tank (24.6 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The LX 570 has almost a gallon more fuel capacity than the Cayenne’s standard fuel tank (24.6 vs. 23.7 gallons).

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the LX 570 has larger standard tires than the Cayenne (275/50R21 vs. 255/55R19).

The LX 570’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cayenne’s standard 55 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the LX 570 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Cayenne.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the LX 570’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Cayenne’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the LX 570 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Cayenne (8.9 vs. 8.2 inches), allowing the LX 570 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The LX 570’s minimum ground clearance is .5 inch higher than on the Cayenne Air Suspension (8.9 vs. 8.4 inches).

Passenger Space

The LX 570 has standard seating for 8 passengers; the Cayenne can only carry 5.

Cargo Capacity

The LX 570’s rear cargo window opens separately from the rest of the tailgate door to allow quicker loading of small packages. The Cayenne’s rear cargo window doesn’t open.

Ergonomics

The LX 570 has a 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
