Safety

Both the F-Type and the C-Class Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, blind spot warning systems, front parking sensors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The F-Type comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The C-Class Coupe’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year and 10,000 miles sooner.

The F-Type’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the C-Class Coupe’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the F-Type for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for oil changes, lubrication and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the C-Class Coupe.

Fuel Economy and Range

The F-Type has 1.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the C-Class Coupe (18.5 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

The F-Type offers a manual transmission for better acceleration, control and fuel economy. The C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer a manual transmission.

The F-Type Auto’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer launch control.

The F-Type offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the F-Type has larger standard tires than the C-Class Coupe (F:245/45R18 & R:275/40R18 vs. F:225/45R18 & R:245/40R18). The F-Type’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the C-Class Coupe (275/40R19 vs. 225/45R18).

The F-Type’s optional 255/35R20 front and 295/30R20 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the C-Class Coupe’s optional 40 series front and 35 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the F-Type offers optional 20-inch wheels. The C-Class Coupe’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the F-Type is .4 inches wider in the front and 3.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the C-Class Coupe.

The F-Type R Coupe handles at 1.00 G’s, while the C 300 pulls only .91 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The F-Type SVR Coupe executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.9 seconds quicker than the C 300 4MATIC (24 seconds @ .87 average G’s vs. 25.9 seconds @ .71 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the F-Type’s turning circle is 1.7 feet tighter than the C 300’s (35.1 feet vs. 36.8 feet). The F-Type AWD’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the AMG C 43 Coupe’s (37.1 feet vs. 39.7 feet).

Chassis

The Jaguar F-Type may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 100 to 250 pounds less than the Mercedes C-Class Coupe.

The F-Type is 8.5 inches shorter than the AMG C 43 Coupe, making the F-Type easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

The F-Type has 1 inch more front legroom and 1.7 inches more front shoulder room than the C-Class Coupe.

Cargo Capacity

The F-Type Coupe has a much larger trunk than the C-Class Coupe (14.4 vs. 10.5 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F-Type has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The C-Class Coupe doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the F-Type third among midsize premium sporty cars in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The C-Class Coupe isn’t in the top three.

The F-Type was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2014. The C-Class Coupe has never been an “All Star.”
