The Nexo’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The e-Golf doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Nexo and the e-Golf have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front-wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available rear parking sensors.

The Nexo comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The e-Golf’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 2 years and 24,000 miles sooner.

The Nexo comes with free roadside assistance for 5 years unlimited miles. Hyundai will send help if you run out of gas, need a jump-start, lock your keys in or need any assistance on the road. Volkswagen doesn’t give free roadside assistance for the e-Golf.

Hyundai’s powertrain warranty covers the Nexo 5 years and 40,000 miles longer than Volkswagen covers the e-Golf. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the e-Golf ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

There are over 28 percent more Hyundai dealers than there are Volkswagen dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Nexo’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Nexo’s maximum driving range in pure electric mode is 370 miles, almost three times as far as the e-Golf’s 125 mile range. After it exhausts its pure electric range, the Nexo can then continue for 0 more miles on its internal combustion engine, while the e-Golf has to recharge for 1 hour for only a 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a conventional charging station can take up to 26 hours.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Nexo’s brake rotors are larger than those on the e-Golf:

Front Rotors

12.6 inches

11.3 inches

Rear Rotors

11.9 inches

10.7 inches

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Nexo has larger standard tires than the e-Golf (225/60R17 vs. 205/55R16). The Nexo Limited’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the e-Golf (245/45R19 vs. 205/55R16).

The Nexo Limited’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the e-Golf’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Nexo has standard 17-inch wheels. Only 16-inch wheels are available on the e-Golf. The Nexo Limited has standard 19-inch wheels.

Suspension and Handling

The Nexo has standard front and rear gas-charged shocks for better control over choppy roads. The e-Golf’s suspension doesn’t offer gas-charged shocks.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Nexo’s cargo door can be opened just by waiting momentarily behind the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The e-Golf doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield, the Nexo has standard extendable sun visors. The e-Golf doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Standard air-conditioned seats in the Nexo Limited keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in summer. The e-Golf doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the Nexo Limited’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the vehicle heater warms up. The e-Golf doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Nexo’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The e-Golf’s navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

The Nexo has a 115-volt a/c outlet, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The e-Golf doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
