Safety

Both the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid and the Fusion Energi have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda 12th in reliability, above the industry average. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is ranked 16th.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Honda vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Honda 3 places higher in reliability than Ford.

Engine

The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid’s standard 1.5 DOHC 4 cyl. hybrid produces 17 more horsepower (212 vs. 195) than the Fusion Energi’s 2.0 DOHC 4 cyl. hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid running on electricity gets better fuel mileage than the Fusion Energi running on electricity (117 city/102 hwy vs. 104 city/91 hwy MPGe).

The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid’s maximum driving range in pure electric mode is 47 miles, almost two and a half times as far as the Fusion Energi’s 20-mile range.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Honda Clarity Plug-In Hybrid higher (8 out of 10) than the Ford Fusion Energi (7). This means the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid produces up to 5.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Fusion Energi every 15,000 miles.

Passenger Space

The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid has .8 inches more front hip room, 1.9 inches more front shoulder room, 1.2 inches more rear hip room and .4 inches more rear shoulder room than the Fusion Energi.

Cargo Capacity

The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid has a much larger trunk than the Fusion Energi (15.5 vs. 8.2 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

Both the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid and the Fusion Energi have standard heated front seats. The Clarity Plug-In Hybrid also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Fusion Energi.
