The Clarity Electric has standard HondaLink Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a GPS response system, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.
Both the Clarity Electric and the Outlander PHEV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.
The Clarity Electric’s corrosion warranty is unlimited miles longer than the Outlander PHEV’s (unlimited vs. 100,000 miles).
There are almost 3 times as many Honda dealers as there are Mitsubishi dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Clarity Electric’s warranty.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Honda vehicles are better in initial quality than Mitsubishi vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Honda 23rd in initial quality. With 9 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mitsubishi is ranked 26th.

The Clarity Electric’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 89 miles on a full charge. The Outlander PHEV can only travel about 22 miles before it has to start its internal combustion engine.
For better stopping power the Clarity Electric’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Outlander PHEV:
For better traction, the Clarity Electric has larger tires than the Outlander PHEV (235/45R18 vs. 225/55R18).
The Clarity Electric’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Outlander PHEV’s standard 55 series tires.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Clarity Electric’s wheelbase is 3.2 inches longer than on the Outlander PHEV (108.3 inches vs. 105.1 inches).
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Clarity Electric is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.9 inches wider in the rear than on the Outlander PHEV.
The Clarity Electric’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51.1% to 48.9%) than the Outlander PHEV’s (54% to 46%). This gives the Clarity Electric more stable handling and braking.
The Clarity Electric is 9.1 inches shorter in height than the Outlander PHEV, making the Clarity Electric much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).
The Clarity Electric has 1.3 inches more front legroom, 3 inches more front hip room, 3.3 inches more front shoulder room, 2.7 inches more rear hip room and 1.3 inches more rear shoulder room than the Outlander PHEV.
The Clarity Electric has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a remote starting system.
When two different drivers share the Clarity Electric, the memory seats make it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver’s seat position. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer memory seats.
The Clarity Electric’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Outlander PHEV’s passenger windows don’t open or close automatically.
If the windows are left open on the Clarity Electric the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the Outlander PHEV can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
The Outlander PHEV’s standard power locks don’t automatically lock the doors. The Clarity Electric’s standard doors lock when a certain speed is reached. This is an important feature for occupant safety. Locked doors are proven to open less often in collisions, and they are also effective in preventing crime at traffic lights. (The power lock’s automatic feature may have to be activated by your dealer.)
To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Clarity Electric has standard extendable sun visors. The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer extendable visors.
Both the Clarity Electric and the Outlander PHEV have standard heated front seats. The Clarity Electric also has standard heated rear seats to keep those passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated rear seats aren’t available in the Outlander PHEV.
To direct the driver from any location to a given street address, a GPS navigation system is standard on the Clarity Electric. The Clarity Electric’s navigation system also has a real-time traffic update feature that offers alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Outlander PHEV doesn’t offer a navigation system.
