Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and middle seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Grand Caravan are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Hyundai Palisade doesn’t offer height-adjustable middle seat belts.

The Grand Caravan has standard Reactive Head Restraints, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Reactive Head Restraints system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Palisade doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the Grand Caravan and the Palisade have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

There are almost 3 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Hyundai dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Grand Caravan’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Grand Caravan first among minivans in their 2018 Initial Quality Study. The Palisade isn’t in the top three in its category.

Fuel Economy and Range

The Grand Caravan has 1.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Palisade (20 vs. 18.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Grand Caravan’s wheelbase is 7 inches longer than on the Palisade (121.2 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

Chassis

The design of the Dodge Grand Caravan amounts to more than styling. The Grand Caravan has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .316 Cd. That is lower than the Palisade (.33) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Grand Caravan get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Grand Caravan has .3 inches more front hip room, 2.5 inches more front shoulder room, 7.1 inches more rear hip room, 3.9 inches more rear shoulder room, .1 inches more third row headroom, 6.3 inches more third row legroom, 5 inches more third row hip room and 6.8 inches more third row shoulder room than the Palisade.

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Grand Caravan when its tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the liftgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The Palisade doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

Cargo Capacity

The Grand Caravan’s cargo area provides more volume than the Palisade.

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Grand Caravan easier. The Grand Caravan’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 24 inches, while the Palisade’s liftover is 29.6 inches.

The Grand Caravan’s cargo area is larger than the Palisade’s in every dimension:

The Grand Caravan offers optional Stow ‘n Go™ second and third row seats, which fold flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Palisade doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

Ergonomics

The Grand Caravan has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Palisade SEL/Limited.
