In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Blazer are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.
To help make backing safer, the Blazer (except L)’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.
Both the Blazer and the GLC Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.
Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Blazer 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the GLC Coupe. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the GLC Coupe ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.
The Blazer’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the GLC Coupe’s (6 vs. 5 years).
Chevrolet pays for the first scheduled maintenance on the Blazer. Chevrolet will pay for the first oil change, lubrication and any other required maintenance in the first year. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the GLC Coupe.
There are almost 8 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer’s warranty.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 6th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 10 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 14th.
J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 6th in reliability, above the industry average. With 23 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 15th.
The Blazer’s optional 3.6 DOHC V6 produces 64 more horsepower (305 vs. 241) than the GLC 300 Coupe’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.
An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Blazer V6’s fuel efficiency. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Blazer uses regular unleaded gasoline. The GLC Coupe requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.
The Blazer FWD’s standard fuel tank has 2 gallons more fuel capacity than the GLC Coupe (19.4 vs. 17.4 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Blazer AWD’s standard fuel tank has 4.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the GLC Coupe (21.7 vs. 17.4 gallons).
The Blazer has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
For better traction, the Blazer RS/Premier’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GLC Coupe (265/45R21 vs. 255/45R20).
The Chevrolet Blazer’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Mercedes GLC Coupe only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.
The Blazer has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.
The Blazer LT/RS/Premier has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GLC Coupe; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Blazer is 2.6 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than on the GLC Coupe.
The Chevrolet Blazer may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Mercedes GLC Coupe.
The front grille of the Blazer uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer active grille shutters.
The Blazer uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.
The Blazer has .9 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 1.8 inches more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear headroom, 2.4 inches more rear legroom and 2.8 inches more rear shoulder room than the GLC Coupe.
The Blazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the GLC Coupe with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 17.6 cubic feet). The Blazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the GLC Coupe with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 49.4 cubic feet).
Maximum trailer towing in the Mercedes GLC Coupe is limited to 3500 pounds. The Blazer offers up to a 4500 lbs. towing capacity.
The Blazer (except L) offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a remote starting system.
To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Blazer has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the GLC Coupe only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.
The Blazer is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The GLC Coupe doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
