Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Blazer are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To help make backing safer, the Blazer (except L)’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Blazer and the AMG GLE 43 Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

Chevrolet’s powertrain warranty covers the Blazer 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the AMG GLE 43 Coupe. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the AMG GLE 43 Coupe ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Blazer’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe’s (6 vs. 5 years).

There are almost 8 times as many Chevrolet dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Blazer’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 6th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 10 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 14th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Chevrolet vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Chevrolet 6th in reliability, above the industry average. With 23 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 15th.

Fuel Economy and Range

An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Blazer V6’s fuel efficiency. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Chevrolet Blazer uses regular unleaded gasoline. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Blazer has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Tires and Wheels

The Chevrolet Blazer’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Blazer has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

Chassis

The Chevrolet Blazer may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 to 900 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe.

The front grille of the Blazer uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Blazer uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Blazer has .6 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more front shoulder room, .8 inches more rear headroom, 1.2 inches more rear legroom and .2 inches more rear shoulder room than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe.

Cargo Capacity

The Blazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe with its rear seat up (30.5 vs. 23 cubic feet). The Blazer has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe with its rear seat folded (64.2 vs. 60.7 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the Blazer’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Blazer RS/Premier’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Blazer has a standard rear wiper. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Model Availability

The Blazer is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
