Safety

For enhanced safety, the front shoulder belts of the Cadillac XTS are height-adjustable, and the rear seat shoulder belts have child comfort guides to move the belt to properly fit children. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages children to buckle up. The Genesis G90 has only front height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the XTS and G90 have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The XTS has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The G90’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The XTS offers optional Reverse Automatic Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor and automatically apply the brakes to prevent a rear collision. The G90 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

Both the XTS and the G90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

There are almost 3 times as many Cadillac dealers as there are Genesis dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the XTS’ warranty.

Reliability

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the XTS’ reliability 31 points higher than the G90.

Engine

The XTS V-Sport’s standard 3.6 turbo V6 produces 45 more horsepower (410 vs. 365) than the G90 3.3T’s standard 3.3 turbo V6.

As tested in Car and Driver the XTS V-Sport is faster than the G90 5.0:

The XTS has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The G90 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Brakes and Stopping

The XTS stops much shorter than the G90:

Motor Trend

Tires and Wheels

The XTS’ optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the G90’s 45 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the XTS offers optional 20-inch wheels. The G90’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The rear suspension of the XTS uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the G90, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The XTS offers an optional automatic rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The G90 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The XTS handles at .85 G’s, while the G90 5.0 pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Chassis

The Cadillac XTS may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 to 700 pounds less than the Genesis G90.

The XTS is 4 inches shorter than the G90, making the XTS easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The XTS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The G90 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Cargo Capacity

The XTS has a much larger trunk than the G90 (18 vs. 15.7 cubic feet).

The XTS’ standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The G90 doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

Ergonomics

The XTS’ instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The G90 does not have an oil pressure gauge.

On a hot day the XTS’ driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the G90 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The XTS Premium/Platinum/V-Sport has a 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The G90 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The XTS FWD’s optional Automatic Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The G90 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
