Safety

Both the Regal TourX and the E-Class Wagon have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rear parking sensors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

Buick’s powertrain warranty covers the Regal TourX 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Mercedes covers the E-Class Wagon. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the E-Class Wagon ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The Regal TourX’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the E-Class Wagon’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Buick pays for the first scheduled maintenance on the Regal TourX. Buick will pay for the first oil change, lubrication and any other required maintenance in the first year. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the E-Class Wagon.

There are over 5 times as many Buick dealers as there are Mercedes dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Regal TourX’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Buick vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick third in reliability, above the industry average. With 31 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is ranked 15th.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Regal TourX gets better fuel mileage than the E 450 4MATIC Wagon (21 city/29 hwy vs. 19 city/26 hwy).

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Buick Regal TourX uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The E-Class Wagon requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

The Regal TourX has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The E-Class Wagon doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Brakes and Stopping

The Regal TourX stops shorter than the E-Class Wagon:

Chassis

The Buick Regal TourX may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 600 pounds less than the Mercedes E-Class Wagon.

The Regal TourX uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The E-Class Wagon doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Passenger Space

The Regal TourX has 1.3 inches more front headroom, .6 inches more front legroom and 1.1 inches more rear legroom than the E-Class Wagon.

Cargo Capacity

The Regal TourX has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the E-Class Wagon with its rear seat folded (73.5 vs. 64 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The Regal TourX’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge – which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The E-Class Wagon does not have an oil pressure gauge.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Regal TourX has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the E-Class Wagon only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

Economic Advantages

Insurance will cost less for the Regal TourX owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Regal TourX will cost $3655 to $4495 less than the E-Class Wagon over a five-year period.

IntelliChoice estimates that five-year ownership costs (depreciation, financing, insurance, fuel, fees, repairs and maintenance) for the Buick Regal TourX will be $23342 to $37301 less than for the Mercedes E-Class Wagon.
