Compared to metal, the X2’s plastic fuel tank can withstand harder, more intrusive impacts without leaking; this decreases the possibility of fire. The Jaguar F-Pace has a metal gas tank.

Both the X2 and the F-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive, blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The X2’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the F-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 2 times as many BMW dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the X2’s warranty.

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the X2 has a standard 150-amp alternator. The F-Pace’s 130-amp alternator isn’t as powerful.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the X2’s reliability 30 points higher than the F-Pace.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW 11th in initial quality, above the industry average. With 61 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 30th, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW 8th in reliability, above the industry average. With 32 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 20th.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the BMW X2 higher (7 out of 10) than the Jaguar F-Pace (1 to 7). This means the X2 produces up to 47 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the F-Pace every 15,000 miles.

The X2’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The F-Pace doesn’t offer launch control.

Tires and Wheels

The X2’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F-Pace Base’s standard 60 series tires.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the X2 can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The F-Pace doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

Suspension and Handling

The X2 xDrive28i handles at .91 G’s, while the F-Pace Portfolio pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The X2 sDrive28i xDrive executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the F-Pace R-Sport (25.9 seconds @ .68 average G’s vs. 26.8 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the X2’s turning circle is .8 feet tighter than the F-Pace’s (37.2 feet vs. 38 feet).

For greater off-road capability the X2 has a 1.3 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the F-Pace SVR (7.2 vs. 5.9 inches), allowing the X2 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The X2’s minimum ground clearance is .9 inch higher than on the F-Pace (7.2 vs. 6.3 inches).

The BMW X2 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 650 pounds less than the Jaguar F-Pace.

The X2 is 1 foot, 2.1 inches shorter than the F-Pace, making the X2 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The X2 is 9.7 inches narrower than the F-Pace, making the X2 easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the X2 xDrive28i is quieter than the F-Pace S:

37 dB

40 dB

81 dB

70 MPH Cruising

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks BMW 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 16% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 15th.

Model Availability

The X2 is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The F-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
