Both the Mulsanne and S-Class have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Mulsanne has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The S-Class’ child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Mulsanne and the S-Class have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems and rearview cameras.

The Bentley Mulsanne weighs 960 to 1511 pounds more than the Mercedes S-Class. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better traction, the Mulsanne has larger tires than the S-Class (265/45R20 vs. 245/50R18). The Mulsanne’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the S-Class (265/45R20 vs. 255/40R20).

The Mulsanne’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S-Class’ standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mulsanne has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the S-Class. The Mulsanne’s optional 21-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels on the S 63.

The Mulsanne offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the S-Class; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed. Some models of the S-Class don’t even offer run-flats.

The Mulsanne Speed handles at .84 G’s, while the S 560 pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Mulsanne uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The S-Class doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Mulsanne has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The S-Class doesn’t offer headlight washers.
