Both the Bentayga and GLE have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Bentayga has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The GLE’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Bentayga helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then projects the image on the windshield, near the driver’s line of sight. The GLE doesn’t offer a night vision system.

To help make backing safer, the Bentayga’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The GLE doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Bentayga and the GLE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The front and rear suspension of the Bentayga uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the GLE, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Bentayga offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Mercedes doesn’t offer an active suspension on the GLE.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Bentayga’s wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer than on the GLE (117.9 inches vs. 114.8 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Bentayga is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 1.3 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the GLE.

The Bentayga handles at .81 G’s, while the AMG GLE 43 pulls only .77 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Bentayga executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 4.2 seconds quicker than the GLE (25.6 seconds @ .74 average G’s vs. 29.8 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

The design of the Bentley Bentayga amounts to more than styling. The Bentayga has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .34 Cd. That is lower than the GLE (.37). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Bentayga get better fuel mileage.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Bentayga is quieter than the AMG GLE 43 (74 vs. 76 dB).

Flexibility is maximized at the game, campground or a drive-in theatre in the Bentayga when its optional tailgating rear seats are deployed, allowing people to sit facing out of the liftgate. (Do not use while vehicle is in motion.) The GLE doesn’t offer tailgating seats.

The Bentayga offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The GLE doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Bentayga has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GLE doesn’t offer headlight washers.

Optional air conditioned the front and second row seats keep the Bentayga’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The GLE doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.
