The SQ5’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Bentayga doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The SQ5 has standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The SQ5 Premium Plus/Prestige has a standard Audi Connect CARE, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the SQ5 and the Bentayga have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height-adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and its standard front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the SQ5 the rating of “Top Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 139 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Bentayga has not been tested, yet.

The SQ5 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Bentayga’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The SQ5’s corrosion warranty is 9 years longer than the Bentayga’s (12 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 7 times as many Audi dealers as there are Bentley dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ5’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the SQ5 gets better fuel mileage than the Bentayga V8 (19 city/24 hwy vs. 14 city/23 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the SQ5’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Bentayga doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Audi SQ5 higher (5 out of 10) than the Bentley Bentayga (3). This means the SQ5 produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Bentayga every 15,000 miles.

The SQ5’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Bentayga doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

The SQ5 stops much shorter than the Bentayga:

Tires and Wheels

The SQ5’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Bentayga’s standard 50 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The SQ5’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (54.3% to 45.7%) than the Bentayga’s (57.5% to 42.5%). This gives the SQ5 more stable handling and braking.

The SQ5 Prestige handles at .93 G’s, while the Bentayga pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the SQ5’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the Bentayga’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.6 feet).

The Audi SQ5 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 950 to 1050 pounds less than the Bentley Bentayga.

The SQ5 is 1 foot, 6.5 inches shorter than the Bentayga, making the SQ5 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver while at idle, the interior of the SQ5 Prestige is quieter than the Bentayga (37 vs. 44 dB).

Passenger Space

The SQ5 has 1.4 inches more front headroom and 1.3 inches more rear headroom than the Bentayga.

Cargo Capacity

The SQ5 has a much larger cargo volume than the Bentayga with its rear seat up (25.1 vs. 7.6 cubic feet).

The SQ5’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The Bentayga w/Four Seat Comfort Specification doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the SQ5 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Bentayga doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
