Safety

Both the e-tron and Cayenne have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The e-tron has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Cayenne’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the e-tron and the Cayenne have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available four-wheel drive and night vision systems.

Warranty

There are over 59 percent more Audi dealers than there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the e-tron’s warranty.

Reliability

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ December 2018 Auto Issue reports that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Porsche vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Audi 4 places higher in reliability than Porsche.

Engine

The e-tron’s electric motor produces 67 more horsepower (402 vs. 335) and 158 lbs.-ft. more torque (490 vs. 332) than the Cayenne’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The e-tron’s electric motor produces 84 lbs.-ft. more torque (490 vs. 406) than the Cayenne S’ standard 2.9 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

The e-tron’s maximum EPA estimated driving range is 204 miles on a full charge. The Cayenne E-Hybrid can only travel about 27 miles before it has to start its internal combustion engine.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the e-tron’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Cayenne:

Rear Rotors

Tires and Wheels

The e-tron’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cayenne’s standard 55 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the e-tron has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Cayenne.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the e-tron uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Cayenne, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the e-tron’s wheelbase is 1.3 inches longer than on the Cayenne (115.3 inches vs. 114 inches).

Chassis

The design of the Audi e-tron amounts to more than styling. The e-tron has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .3 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Cayenne (.34 to .35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the e-tron get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

The e-tron has a much larger cargo volume than the Cayenne with its rear seat up (28.5 vs. 27.1 cubic feet).

Pressing a switch automatically lowers the e-tron’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The Cayenne doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Ergonomics

The e-tron’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Cayenne.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the e-tron has standard extendable sun visors. The Cayenne doesn’t offer extendable visors.
