Safety

For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Audi Allroad have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer pretensioners for the rear seat belts.

The Allroad’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Allroad has a standard Audi Backguard System, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the Audi Backguard System moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Allroad has standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Audi Allroad has Daytime Running Lights to help keep it more visible under all conditions. Canadian government studies show that driving with lights during the day reduces accidents by 11% by making vehicles more conspicuous. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer Daytime Running Lights.

Both the Allroad and the Range Rover Evoque have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and its standard front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Allroad the rating of “Top Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 139 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Range Rover Evoque has not been tested, yet.

Warranty

The Allroad’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the Range Rover Evoque’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 75 percent more Audi dealers than there are Land Rover dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Allroad’s warranty.

Reliability

The Audi Allroad’s engine uses a cast iron block for durability, while the Range Rover Evoque’s engines use an aluminum block. Aluminum engine blocks are much more prone to warp and crack at high temperatures than cast iron.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Audi vehicles are better in initial quality than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 25th in initial quality. With 55 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 31st.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2018 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Land Rover vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 13th in reliability, above the industry average. With 63 more problems per 100 vehicles, Land Rover is ranked 30th.

Engine

The Allroad’s 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. produces 11 more horsepower (248 vs. 237) and 22 lbs.-ft. more torque (273 vs. 251) than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl.

Fuel Economy and Range

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Audi Allroad uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The Range Rover Evoque requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.

Transmission

The Allroad offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Allroad’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Allroad’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Range Rover Evoque:

For better traction, the Allroad has larger tires than the Range Rover Evoque (245/45R18 vs. 235/55R19).

The Allroad’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Range Rover Evoque’s standard 60 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Allroad’s wheelbase is 6.2 inches longer than on the Range Rover Evoque (110.9 inches vs. 104.7 inches).

The Allroad Prestige handles at .85 G’s, while the Range Rover Evoque 5-Door pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Allroad Premium Plus executes Motor Trend’s “Figure-Eight” maneuver 1.4 seconds quicker than the Range Rover Evoque 5-Door (26.3 seconds @ .69 average G’s vs. 27.7 seconds @ .66 average G’s).

Chassis

The Allroad is 5.5 inches narrower on average than the Range Rover Evoque, making the Allroad easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The design of the Audi Allroad amounts to more than styling. The Allroad has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .32 Cd. That is lower than the Range Rover Evoque (.35 to .39) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Allroad get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

The Allroad has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Range Rover Evoque 5-Door with its rear seat up (24.2 vs. 20.3 cubic feet). The Allroad has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Range Rover Evoque 5-Door with its rear seat folded (58.5 vs. 51 cubic feet).

Servicing Ease

The engine in the Allroad is mounted longitudinally (North-South), instead of sideways, as in the Range Rover Evoque. This makes it easier to service and maintain, because the accessory belts are in front.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Land Rover. J.D. Power ranks Audi third in service department satisfaction. With a 59% lower rating, Land Rover is ranked 23rd.

Ergonomics

The Allroad has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Allroad to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the Range Rover Evoque.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Allroad has a standard rear wiper. The Range Rover Evoque Convertible doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Allroad has standard extendable sun visors. The Range Rover Evoque doesn’t offer extendable visors.
