Safety

To help make backing safer, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the AMG GLE 43 Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and available lane departure warning systems.

Engine

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s 2.9 turbo V6 produces 120 more horsepower (505 vs. 385) and 59 lbs.-ft. more torque (443 vs. 384) than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe’s 3.0 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Stelvio Quadrifoglio gets better fuel mileage than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe (17 city/23 hwy vs. 17 city/22 hwy).

An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s fuel efficiency. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s brake rotors are larger than those on the AMG GLE 43 Coupe:

Stelvio Quadrifoglio

Front Rotors

15.4 inches

14.8 inches

Rear Rotors

14.2 inches

13.6 inches

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Suspension and Handling

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe (24.6 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 25.3 seconds @ .76 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Stelvio Quadrifoglio has a greater minimum ground clearance than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe (7.9 vs. 7.8 inches), allowing the Stelvio Quadrifoglio to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 600 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG GLE 43 Coupe.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio is 7.5 inches shorter than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe, making the Stelvio Quadrifoglio easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio amounts to more than styling. The Stelvio Quadrifoglio has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .34 Cd. That is lower than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe (.36). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Stelvio Quadrifoglio get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio has 1 inch more front headroom and 1.1 inches more rear headroom than the AMG GLE 43 Coupe.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio’s available liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio has a standard rear wiper. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio has standard extendable sun visors. The AMG GLE 43 Coupe doesn’t offer extendable visors.
