Safety

Both the 4C and the M2 Competition have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Reliability

The M2 Competition’s redline is at 7600 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The 4C has a 6500 RPM redline.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the 4C gets better fuel mileage than the M2:

The 4C has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The M2 Competition doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

The Alfa Romeo 4C comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the M2 Competition.

Brakes and Stopping

The 4C stops much shorter than the M2 Competition:

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 4C is 2.3 inches wider in the front and .1 inches wider in the rear than on the M2 Competition.

Chassis

The Alfa Romeo 4C may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1100 to 1150 pounds less than the BMW M2 Competition.

The 4C is 1 foot, 7.2 inches shorter than the M2 Competition, making the 4C easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 4C is 8.8 inches shorter in height than the M2 Competition, making the 4C much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).
