Safety

Both the 4C and the RS 5 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

Reliability

To reliably power the ignition and other systems and to recharge the battery, the 4C has a standard 160-amp alternator. The RS 5’s standard 110-amp alternator and largest (optional) 150-amp alternator aren’t as powerful.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the 4C has a standard 500-amp battery. The RS 5’s 420-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the 4C gets better fuel mileage than the RS 5 (24 city/34 hwy vs. 18 city/27 hwy).

The 4C has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The RS 5 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Transmission

The 4C offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The RS 5 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The 4C’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The RS 5 doesn’t offer launch control.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the 4C is 1.6 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the RS 5.

Chassis

The Alfa Romeo 4C may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1500 pounds less than the Audi RS 5.

The 4C is 2 feet, 5 inches shorter than the RS 5, making the 4C easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Recommendations

The 4C was chosen as one of Automobile Magazine’s “All Stars” in 2015. The RS 5 has never been an “All Star.”
