Safety

The S5 Sportback’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The XF doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi S5 Sportback are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar XF doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The S5 Sportback has standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The XF doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the S5 Sportback. But it costs extra on the XF.

Both the S5 Sportback and the XF have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, available lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

The S5 Sportback’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the XF’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 79 percent more Audi dealers than there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the S5 Sportback’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2017 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Audi vehicles are better in initial quality than Jaguar vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Audi 26th in initial quality. With 33 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jaguar is ranked 31st.

Engine

The S5 Sportback’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 107 more horsepower (354 vs. 247) and 100 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 269) than the XF 25t’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The S5 Sportback’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 58 more horsepower (354 vs. 296) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 295) than the XF 30t’s standard 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. The S5 Sportback’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 14 more horsepower (354 vs. 340) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 332) than the XF 35t’s standard 3.0 supercharged V6. The S5 Sportback’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (369 vs. 332) than the XF S’ standard 3.0 supercharged V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the S5 Sportback gets better fuel mileage than the XF S AWD 3.0 S.C. V6 (380 HP) (21 city/30 hwy vs. 20 city/28 hwy).

Tires and Wheels

The S5 Sportback’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the XF’s standard 45 series tires.

Chassis

The S5 Sportback is 7.9 inches shorter than the XF Sedan, making the S5 Sportback easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The S5 Sportback has a much larger trunk with its rear seat up than the XF Sedan with its rear seat up (21.8 vs. 17.8 cubic feet). The S5 Sportback has a much larger trunk with its rear seat folded than the XF Sedan with its rear seat folded (35 vs. 31.2 cubic feet).

Ergonomics

The S5 Sportback has a standard locking fuel door with a remote release located convenient to the driver. A locking fuel door helps prevent vandalism, such as sugar in the tank and fuel theft. The XF doesn’t offer a locking fuel door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the S5 Sportback to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. Heated windshield washer nozzles cost extra on the XF.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the S5 Sportback has standard extendable sun visors. The XF doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Model Availability

The Audi S5 comes in coupe, convertible and four door hatchback bodystyles; the Jaguar XF isn’t available as a coupe or convertible.

Recommendations

The Audi A5/S5/RS 5 outsold the Jaguar XF by over three to one during the 2017 model year.
