Safety

To help make backing safer, the Stelvio’s optional cross-path warning system uses wide-angle radar in the rear bumper to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a cross-path warning system.

Both the Stelvio and the Cayenne have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, available crash mitigating brakes, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems and front parking sensors.

Reliability

The engine in the Stelvio has a single overhead cam for simplicity. The engines in the Cayenne have dual overhead cams, which add to the number of moving parts and the complexity of the cylinder heads.

Engine

The Stelvio’s 2.0 turbo 4 cyl. produces 11 lbs.-ft. more torque (306 vs. 295) than the Cayenne’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Stelvio gets better fuel mileage than the Cayenne with its standard engine (22 city/28 hwy vs. 18 city/24 hwy).

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Stelvio’s turning circle is .6 feet tighter than the Cayenne’s (38.4 feet vs. 39 feet).

Chassis

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 1150 pounds less than the Porsche Cayenne.

The Stelvio is 6.5 inches shorter than the Cayenne, making the Stelvio easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio amounts to more than styling. The Stelvio has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .32 Cd. That is lower than the Cayenne (.35 to .36) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Stelvio get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Stelvio’s available cargo door can be opened just by a gesture, leaving your hands completely free. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Towing

While the Cayenne S E-Hybrid is not recommended to tow, any Stelvio can tow a minimum of 3000 pounds.

Ergonomics

The Stelvio has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Stelvio’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the Cayenne.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Stelvio has standard extendable sun visors. The Cayenne doesn’t offer extendable visors.

When the Stelvio is put in reverse, the rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Cayenne’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Stelvio offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
